To find the opposite of x-1, find the opposite of each term.
100=-x+1+3\left(x+1\right)
The opposite of -1 is 1.

Use the distributive property to multiply 3 by x+1.
100=2x+1+3
Combine -x and 3x to get 2x.
100=2x+4
Add 1 and 3 to get 4.
2x+4=100
Swap sides so that all variable terms are on the left hand side.
2x=100-4
Subtract 4 from both sides.
2x=96
Subtract 4 from 100 to get 96.

Divide both sides by 2.
