To solve a pair of equations using substitution, first solve one of the equations for one of the variables. Then substitute the result for that variable in the other equation.
2y+4u=-3
Pick one of the two equations which is more simple to solve for y by isolating y on the left hand side of the equal sign.
2y=-4u-3
Subtract 4u from both sides of the equation.
y=-2u-\frac{3}{2}
Divide both sides by 2.
2\left(-2u-\frac{3}{2}\right)+10x=7
Substitute -\frac{3}{2}-2u for y in the other equation, 2y+10x=7.
-4u-3+10x=7
Multiply 2 times -\frac{3}{2}-2u.
10x=4u+10
Subtract -3-4u from both sides of the equation.
x=\frac{2u}{5}+1
Divide both sides by 10.
y=-2u-\frac{3}{2},x=\frac{2u}{5}+1
The system is now solved.
