5x+15=x-1
Use the distributive property to multiply x+3 by 5.

Subtract x from both sides.
4x+15=-1
Combine 5x and -x to get 4x.
4x=-1-15
Subtract 15 from both sides.
4x=-16
Subtract 15 from -1 to get -16.
x=\frac{-16}{4}
Divide both sides by 4.
