\left(x+4\right)\times 4-\left(x+1\right)\times 5=0
Variable x cannot be equal to any of the values -4,-1 since division by zero is not defined. Multiply both sides of the equation by \left(x+1\right)\left(x+4\right), the least common multiple of x+1,x+4.
4x+16-\left(x+1\right)\times 5=0
Use the distributive property to multiply x+4 by 4.
4x+16-\left(5x+5\right)=0
Use the distributive property to multiply x+1 by 5.
4x+16-5x-5=0
To find the opposite of 5x+5, find the opposite of each term.
-x+16-5=0
Combine 4x and -5x to get -x.
-x+11=0
Subtract 5 from 16 to get 11.
-x=-11
Subtract 11 from both sides. Anything subtracted from zero gives its negation.
x=11
Multiply both sides by -1.
