\lambda ^{2}+2x-1=y
Swap sides so that all variable terms are on the left hand side.
2x-1=y-\lambda ^{2}
Subtract \lambda ^{2} from both sides.
2x=y-\lambda ^{2}+1
Add 1 to both sides.
\frac{2x}{2}=\frac{y-\lambda ^{2}+1}{2}
Divide both sides by 2.
x=\frac{y-\lambda ^{2}+1}{2}
Dividing by 2 undoes the multiplication by 2.
