Variable x cannot be equal to any of the values -1,0 since division by zero is not defined. Multiply both sides of the equation by x\left(x+1\right), the least common multiple of x,x+1.
x-x\times 2=-1
Subtract 1 from both sides. Anything subtracted from zero gives its negation.
x-2x=-1
Multiply -1 and 2 to get -2.
-x=-1
Combine x and -2x to get -x.
x=1
Multiply both sides by -1.
